Inclusive Awards Description
The Inclusive Awards are a special recognition ceremony that takes place from 1:58-2:10 PM EST on June 19th, immediately following the Press Gay to Play showcase. These awards celebrate games and creators who are making gaming more accessible, approachable, and representative of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Award Categories and Criteria
The awards are evaluated based on three key criteria, as explained by co-host Jambo:
- Accessibility: Recognizing tools, features, and design elements that welcome disabled players and ensure gaming is inclusive for all abilities
- Approachability: Celebrating intuitive design that doesn't gatekeep based on skill level, making games welcoming to newcomers and experienced players alike
- Representation: Honoring authentic LGBTQIA+ characters, stories, and experiences that help players feel seen and validated
The Three Awards
- Single Developer Award: Recognizes a solo creator who is making inclusive games that embody these values
- Single Studio Award: Celebrates a small team that is committed to representation and creating inclusive gaming experiences
- Single Publisher Award: Honours a publisher that actively supports diverse voices and helps bring inclusive games to market
Why These Awards Matter
The ceremony emphasizes why celebrating all three levels (developer, studio, and publisher) matters for ecosystem change. By recognizing inclusive efforts at every level of game development - from individual creators to publishers - the awards highlight how systemic change requires support throughout the entire gaming industry.
Note: The specific recipients of these awards are not listed in the project documents, suggesting they will be announced live during the ceremony as a surprise announcement. The transition from YouTube to Twitch is specifically designed to build anticipation for this special recognition moment.
